So here I am again with lots to report.... my running has been going great body-wise and my knee is getting stronger and I am having less pain. With working out I've noticed my running is getting easier which is great and my lungs are getting stronger. Whoever said weight lifting isn't cardio hasn't been doing it properly.
Mentally wise I am trying to overcome some obstacles with weight training... my brain gets hung up on telling me I can't or your going to hurt yourself or you can't jump that high... but I keep pushing and one day I will get there. I am stubborn that way. Last weekend and this weekend was able to get out on some long walks with my son and 2 dogs... today we ended up going 8km and picking up our awesome neighbor and her kids along the way! Out here in the the country our neighbors are close but not too close. Lungs did great with the coolish air. We have been lucky out here our snow is basically gone and have been having warm temps... can feel spring is coming!

So last time I wrote I was supposed to run that Thursday.. well we did get the cold and the snow. So ended up running inside on the treadmill. As you know I've been working out at a gym and working on getting stronger... not only for running but for me too in everyday life. My gal Lisa has been helping out huge and showing me the right ways to do things and always challenge me to step outside my comfort zone which is great and what I need.
Well an old knee injury has decided to pop it's ugly head up and try to cause me to stop... we've had to take some steps back and work on strengthening my knee again so I don't have these issues again. So far it's working. I am loving the weight training and every week I am able to lift a little more which is pretty cool. So will keep you up on ont he progress!! So today I met up with my running buddies and happy we have a new member to our group to join in the fun!
We started back on the couch to 5km plan that I posted earlier and wow it was hard stopping and going again but at the same time the running part was easier. The temp outside was -1C and a slight breeze which isn't too bad but the running in cold air I am not used to. Last month if I run it's been inside on a treadmill. So the stopping and running part was perfect to start to break my lungs in to the cold again. I had to use my inhaler a lot more then normal so I am going to have to up my other medicine so I don't use the blue one too much. Don't think I can run in anything colder then -5C which stinks as we are to meet up running again Thursday and it's supposed to be cold and chance of snow.... now living in southern Alberta we know not to take it as that's what will happen... you wait 5min it will change. So crossing my fingers the weather people are wrong and I can get out running again! Tomorrow I hit the gym for my arm workout. Can't wait! Well happy New year!! It's not starting out as great as I had hoped but they will get better.
So I joined a gym... yes me... crazy I know! But I am starting to weight train to get stronger and improve everything! I had lost a lot of weight over the last year by working my butt off so now I am looking forward to changing it how it works... more core and upper body strength that I am lacking really bad. I went from a size 12 down to a size 6... haven't been this small since college. Even with living out in the country and doing manual labor, lifting hay bales, shoveling poop and you name it we have to do it out here. So in order to keep up I need to get stronger... the more I read about running longer distances I need to get stronger and just cause I want to change how my body looks I want to get stronger! Today my son and I walk just over 5km to get outside and enjoy the sun and warm temps... we are having a Chinook which is great as we have been in a deep freeze last few weeks. Love watching the snow melt fast! We had fun just enjoying the day! |
